The collections of the designer of Pakistan origins, now based in Dublin, Hira Shah offer a decidedly conceptual point of view on fashion. Unconventional garments and experiments with the silhouette and materials are the keys to her eclectic work. The latest collection “Plastic Zeitgiest to Asian dhoti” explores the functionalities of a cloth of the Pakistani tradition, the dhoti: a piece of fabric about 4.5 meters long which is wrapped around the figure and knotted, taking the shape of a skirt. On this basis, Hira Shah experiences both with draping techniques in relation to the body, and with the choice of material, finally opting for the use of plastic, capable of giving a modern twist, thanks to the original prints, to a garment unchanged over the years.
