What happens when concrete meets packaging design? Concrete is admittedly the star of the past few years. Although it was the favourite material of the Bauhaus too, but since then, new processing techniques made it possible to be even more versatile. We knew it as hard, heavy and a bit cold and boring material, designers and manufacturers proved those misconceptions wrong. We’ve already seen furniture, jewelry and even clothing lines made out of concrete.
When it comes to packaging design, we could say it’s popular design field. Designers came up with breathtakingly beautiful, clever and useful packaging ideas in the past few years, and some of them went viral on the internet in a few days after publishing them. Now a young Hungarian design team,
Remember The Lion, combined the two fields. They came up with a unique idea, to cover bottles with a special concrete based surface.
As every interesting idea, this one is also came from the curiosity of the designers. During a house renovation the guys were fooling around with the leftover concrete and dipped an empty bottle into it. They forgot about the bottles, but after a few days they realized that it dried and stayed on the glass, forming an interesting surface. Of course it was too heavy and tainted their hands, but they started to experiment with the concrete, and the result was this very masculine, rustic, but elegant surface for top quality alcoholic beverages. The Remember the Lion Team is still developing and experimenting with concrete and glass, and they will come up with various great designs in the future.
