Thesilentroom, launched in 2010, is an exciting addition to the Bristol fashion and art scenes. Thesilentroom is a collaborative mixed-media based business located in Old Market, Bristol UK. Pushing the boundaries of t-shirt design, they innovatively link art and fashion, blurring the lines between the two, in order to create wearable art that explores themes of urban decay, psychology, the surreal, the abstract and alternative visual perspectives. The process behind the designs involves found objects, digital processes and fine art approaches with all the designs being created in-house. The designs are screen-printed and hand-painted with water-based inks, the care and attention to detail involved challenging today’s impulse for throw-away fashion fads. Thesilentroom offers a refreshing alternative to the ubiquitous mass-produced t-shirt and it is well worth a look for fashion and art enthusiasts. Here are a few images of my favourite thesilentroom designs: main image “Flight Lines” design by Skylon, second image “Philosophers’ Beach Party” design by Skylon and Foton, third image “The Mob Do Business II: Pokerfaced” design by Skylon and Foton. Click onto their website or follow them on Facebook to find out more about their t-shirt deigns, art prints and graphic novel “Storm Over Cartagena”.
