Portraits of screws

Mar 03 2011, 12:15 pm 0 Monica Bogliolo

What is the object that always remains when you assemble an Ikea furniture? Screws! We don’t know if the artist that we present today have had this idea after he assembled a cabinet for the umpteenth time, he has certainly found an original and creative method to re-use a common object.
Starting from a plywood panel, the Californian sculptor and painter Andrew Myers, creates portraits-sculptures using entirely screws. Another particular feature of these works is the background, made entirely from local phone books, on which Andrew draws the guidelines of the portraits. Once the bolts are embedded at various depths to create a 3D effect, he makes the final retouches with colors.
